Buying a Car
Before committing yourself to buying a car there are a number of things you will need to consider, such as the type of car you are looking for, how much you can afford, how you intend to finance or pay for the car, whether to buy from a private seller or a new or used car dealer and whether to buy a brand new or second hand car.
You can find cars to buy listed in local magazines as well as online via the Internet.
Here are some hints on what to consider when buying a car:
- Work out how much you want to pay for the car before you go to look at it. Don't get carried away and agree to pay more than you want to as there is no point in committing yourself to a larger car loan than you can afford.
- Have any questions about the car written down before you see it, such as whether the car has air con, a CD player etc.
- Ask if the car has been involved in an accident and look for any visible signs of damage that have been repaired.
- Ask if the car is an import.
- Check that the mileage is consistent with the condition of the car and the records are kept in the service history.
- Always take the car for a test drive.
- Consider getting a Car Data Check done before committing yourself to the purchase.
When buying a second hand car from a car dealer, many will offer a warrantee on the vehicle and may have performed a service and MOT before putting the vehicle on the forecourt, which can give you peace of mind. Always check with the dealer exactly what checks and repairs have been made on the car before you buy it.
Buying from a private seller does not always give you the same protection as buying from a dealer but you will generally be able to buy a car for a cheaper price than through a dealer.
When looking to buy a car from a dealer in Wiltshire try to get recommendations from friends or family members.
